The first hint comes just at moon rise
on an ordinary August weeknight. It’s
hardly a breeze at all, certainly not
enough to toss or even tickle a leaf
but still a few degrees cooler with just
a bit more oxygen than usual. Meanwhile,
the chicory stands above the turf, frank
blossoms the color of midnight with
no pretense of foliage. The goslings on
the pond have traded their oatmeal down
for more sleek travel attire and lifted
off for their first long distance flight,
leaving me flat-footed in a dimming
season, longing for fresh wings to glide
a sore heart above the cool indigo prairie.

Thank you, Callie. Really.
Gosh that’s pretty Anna. Feeling it here too in the mean Deep South. Sara
Seemed to come early this year. Thanks, Sara.
You are not just a great writer, Anna, but a wonderfully expressive poet as well. I so love your words.
No one more surprised than me… Thanks Laurel.
Thank you, Anna, for this moment of respite during this horrific Houston weather we are experiencing. Love your photography, poetry, writing & wisdom!
Thanks, Barbara… I’ve been thinking of my Texas friends and everyone else in the way of this rain. Stay safe.
Good photos! Keep clicking!
Thank you, Shibin.
Ran across your books (and bought them) Stable Relations and a Relaxed and Forward. Your writing is a unique form of poetry, wisdom, & honesty. Many benefit from your efforts to share what you have learned through experience including the multitudes of two and four footed among us who don’t read!
Benefiting those four footed ones is part of my plan! Thank you, Janet, for the kind words and for giving the books a try.
Love it! Yes, here in PA the changes are very apparent. I love this time of the year!!
Me, too. More colorful where you are. Thanks Cathy.
Thank you, Candis
