Photo Challenge & Poem: Twisted

Midnight in Alaska

The wheels of my bag
click over the tile floor,
scanning signs for the
departure gate, past gift
shops; t-shirts, mugs,
endangered animal toys.

Shall I trade cash for a
souvenir of this wild place?
Behind my eyelids I keep
the sight of fresh clouds
bubbling over mountains,
snow on sharp black rock.

I hold wood smoke deep
in my lungs to filter my
air. Use the color of the sky
glowing at midnight to
rinse my body at day’s end.
Relish the comfort knowing,

for all the miles traveled
between the geography of
lives, we will meet again,
barn dirt under our nails,
in that infinite place within
the breath of a horse.

  1. Beautiful poem in a beautiful place – Alaska!

I wish you had time to stay and explore. You could write many more beautiful poems with Alaska as inspiration.

But then, Infinity Farm is inspiration enough. I know you miss being there.

  2. Lovely thankyou. While I was feeding my horse this morning on this very frosty New Zealand morning I felt I needed to come in and write a poem for my friend as her dog had just past. Your blog has inspired me to put pen to paper.
