You are right to be wary of us,
little mare. Your hooded eyes
dark and silent, you must be
concerned, yet your brows are
smooth. Not even a natural breeze
in your tail, still to your bones.
You betray nothing, no fear or
warmth. It’s easy to imagine you,
foal by your side, moving by day
over hard land. Surviving by
listening to your inner ancestors.
You’re right to keep their counsel.
This is complicated terrain, we’re
predators who ask you to yield
those instincts. To rein in your
wildness enough to share our life,
enough that we might find a lost
part of our own nature in yours.
And we must nevrr, ever forget this. ?
It’s the good news and the bad… Thanks, Gail
Reblogged this on Barley and I and commented:
This puts so well together all the feelings I had lately ❤
Thank you.
Very humbling. We have lost our wildness.
Or we have dulled our perceptions to an acceptable level for “owners” Thanks, Judy.
Anna, you take away my equilibrium on many occasions. I love your posts♥️Please carry on!
I think it might be horses, I just translate… but thanks, Sharon.
‘find a lost part of our own nature in yours’… how absolutely, astonishingly and humblingly true!
Thanks, Phyllis. It’s why we are pulled to them so strongly, I think.
You have a gift with words as well as horses Anna. I think I’ll pass this onto Pauline (I’m thinking this was inspired by her brumby) …. she’ll recognise all you’ve illustrated in your lovely observation ??
Yes, Anne, Thanks. It is her I’m thinking of, though I didn’t use her photos. She has stuck with me a bit, thanks for sharing it.
❤️
🙂
Love, love , love this!! Thank you Anna!
Oh, Annette, glad you liked this one, thank you.
Just beautiful Anna! I’d like to think it was inspired by Koko, the Kosciuszko Brumby you met least week. It rings true for every wild horse.
Yes, Pauline, every wild horse, but it is that mare that has pushed my fingers on the keys for this poem. She wrote it, really. Thanks.
This is beautiful. Thank you. We need to carry these words in our hearts.
Thanks, Celeste. I think we do…
