The air goes still on the prairie during
that instant when my finished inhale
lifts gravity and just before the slow
release leaves my body soft and tall,
keen for the minutia of each sense
curious in its purpose. Eyes that discern
the exact shade of the color of the light,
ears tuned to the call of prairie grass
and birdsong. Nostrils on the scent of
sage and sweet grass crushed under
hooves moving over pasture. Hold still,
mark the precise equity of moistness
and heat in the air as the earth shifts its
weight, cradling us precious as napping foals
on yellow straw. Precious as the flash edge
of a cloud at the scarlet strike of sunset.
As always, with horses, there never seems to be ‘still’ moment; however, I decided as a new regimen to take a chair and ‘sit a few’ with my horses. It is wonderful.
Thanks, Karen
We call that no agenda time. Awesome feeling!
This is so beautiful. It made my heart peaceful. Thank you for your expression that touches our hearts.
Thank you for reading along, Diana.
Again. You did it again.
What a lovely celebration.
Thanks for the kind words.
In the chaos of my life, the tension in my body, the racing of my thoughts, the endless energies of children and weight of choices to be made, everyday, so many times I remind myself to just breathe.
Thank you for putting it so beautifully! Happy Birthday!
Thanks, Doshia… and amen.
Sensuous and thoughtful, what I think is called evocative. But today it is a bit overwhelming to read, had to think “on purpose” and then interpreted the most basic of thoughts, yes it is healthful to be quiet while breathing when I’m home on our farm *sigh*
Wishing you farm breathing… thanks, Joan.
Considering the picture matter, the poem could have been written tongue in cheek. I’m very curious about the outcome of the encounter you have photographed. Hope it was pleasant.
Yes, curious… she is a elder llama, and she and I both like to say what if this isn’t wrong…. she watched as the skunk left peacefully.
This made me breathe again. Lovely.

Sigh… thank you.
Well, that woke me up! Thanks!
Thank you, Kathy.
