The whorl beneath a forelock, the
velvet comma nostrils, the curve
of a neck, the serpentine of a spine,
the easy s-shaped swing of a tail,
as hooves stride on by. A rolling
nicker rising from within, the arc of a
friendship, the swell of affection, the
initiation of a spiral that begins as a light
caressing curve and ever so gradually
comes around in loops smaller and
ever smaller, binding tighter and deeper
until all loose ends are joined, amen.

(WordPress Photo Challenge is a weekly prompt to share a photo–I enjoy twisting these macro prompts to share our micro life here on the Colorado prairie. I take these photos with my phone, on my farm. And then I write a poem. No psych, definitely not high-tech.)
“The initiation of a spiral that begins as a light”- just perfect.
Thanks, Wendi. I will always be fascinated by this hook horses have in us.
I’m thinking the hook is a bit like an illicit substance as it is impossible to explain to those who haven’t experienced it? You always manage to translate appropriately.
Such perfect words for this sensual image..all of the elements to fall in love with this magical creature.
Irresistible.
Some of the things you are writing these days, so incredibly beautiful!! Surprising yourself? 🙂 DrP
Teehee, Dr. Penny, you know it’s true. No one more surprised than me. More likely my fingers are being used by hooves from beyond. 🙂
So beautiful….. sigh…..and yes help from beyond…..you are the bridge, the translator for us mere humans.
I think you give me way too much credit. But thank you.

Thank you, Sandra.
Beautiful!
Thanks, Aquila.
How do you do this??? I hold my breath as I read and with each image, my chest releases into a long breathing whoosh…crazy
Thanks, Candi. And I don’t think too hard. 🙂
That’s what I see, too. Thanks for the words to go with them.
Beautiful view, isn’t it?
Yesssssss…I like to think you ARE channeling hooves from the past.
Well, you may have surpassed yourself with this one.
Hope you are well and looks like you are!

Thanks, MaryAnn. And yes, we are all fine here.
Arches and arcs have always pleased my eye greatly. It all begins to make sense now.
I love this poem beyond words.
Me, too. Curves in all things. Thanks Lor.
