As you say her name, your voice
drops deep, a tight raspy croak.
Not haunted with loss, but shaken
with awe to ever be gifted such a
mare. A few brief years in the span
of a human life is time enough give
a face character. You lift your chin,
pale lips giving way to smile-lines
under the brim of a hat, bright true
eyes with white-linen wrinkles fanning
onto cheeks, not weathered by sun, but
warmed by the light of a good horse.
…
Impossible to say “Poppy” without a smile and a thightness in my throat. What a privilege she was.
Anna you managed to put that feeling into words, thank you.
Thanks, Magali. They make us beautiful that way.
Rose, My Spanish Rose . . . breathe softly and deeply. Be still, my heart!
May she be reflected on your face for decades to come. Thank you, Dana.
beautiful.

My beloved mother, Lynne.
Not a mare but a wonderful woman whom I miss every single day.
I wrote this for a woman I met… Thanks, Michelle.
Yep, that’s pretty much how I feel about my mare Phoenix. She just turned 20 and looks magnificent. We are growing older together and I feel so lucky to have her by my side.
Wishing you both many more years. Thank you, Pam
This was so beautiful…really enjoying your blogs and your book Relaxed and Forward… kind reminders for me in honoring the many ways of communication with my horse partner Rem….Thank you
Thanks for the kind words, Pamela. And a scratch for Rem.

I adore this! It made me want to jump for joy, but I might injure my old self. Thank you for expressing what the rest of us can only feel in our hearts.
We are the lucky ones, especially when we get “creaky.” Thanks, Adele.
Beautiful.
I love the mares. My little 30″ Momma Cass is my sweetheart. She is a true gift..and the best teacher. She is 26 years old and such a wise ole gal. =-)
Yes. She knows it all by now… 🙂 Thanks, Deb.
