We’ve been sharing sunsets this summer–so precious. We humans don’t value respect as much as horses do. It’s too bad. Thank you Jean, and a scratch to Tattoo.
There is so much talk about respect and trust and relationship and all of that. And I used to pay a lot of attention of how to communicate in “horse”. I used to eat that stuff up but the more I’ve been with my horses over the years and Peaches in particular, I let go of all of that. Each of them does horse in their own way and they get to know how I do human. Then they try to make their idea mine and I try to make my idea theirs and we each show each other how to do it in the most civil way possible. “Quiet” seems to be the watchword of our faith. That all being said, I’ve never kicked or bucked Peaches off and she can’t say the same of me lol I believe we have those days behind us.
Oh Joan. What a great comment… when I read the description of you and your horse, it sounds like “respect and trust and relationship”. I think I understand what you mean. I now train people to read Calming signals, which is a way to listen and at the same time, I tell them there is no direct translation. They are unique communicators, each one. I agree: We aren’t horses and they aren’t human. We have to find each other in between and that involves listening to that particular individual horse we are with.
