A flannel barn shirt buttoned but
resisting a jacket, feeling as uneasy
as the horses, hay blown wide,
flighty hooves at feeding time.
A biting wind from the north
held strong through dusk, dark
too early, a chill too soon. Not
warm under light bed clothes but
not wanting to lose even that heat
getting up for a quilt. As if the cool
penance of poor sleep could stave
off change that’s already come.

Lovely, lovely, lovely! I can just feel all of it as I read those lines. You are something of a genious Anna….and the photo is beautiful!
Thank you, Pat. Not a genius but I do think too much… probably not the same. 🙂

Thank you for the beautiful photo and poem, Anna. You put me right where you are.
We could have some hot chocolate, then! Thanks, Jean.
This one really hit home Anna. “My Summer” has been filled with damaging winds, devastating hail, and flooding rains. Obviously this was no respite from the rigors of winter. And now, too soon, I feel the chill in the morning air. Even the horses seem surprised by it!
Sorry to hear of your “summer”, wishing you a better autumn. Take care, Laurie.

Fabulous photo! Great “as if”.
Change IS in the air. I love Flannel and Fall. And the flurry of pony feet. =-)
