Before I came to live on the prairie, I always thought bird-watching was for eggheads; something for people with no dogs or horses. I was wrong. More than wrong: I was blind. I was being small-minded about feathers.
I do my writing long before dawn, and this time of year, there are birds chirping so loudly, just outside my window, that they can not be ignored. It’s pretty inspirational in a way. They’re the only ones up with me at this hour but I have no idea what they look like–it’s dark out. Who sings that loud in the dark??

This blog is free, and it always will be. Free to read, but also free of ads because I turn away sponsorships and pay to keep ads off my site. I like to read a clean page and think you do too. If you appreciate the work I do, or if your horse does, consider making a donation.
Birds are also beautiful. LOOK at them. You will enjoy!
I know! The ones I see after dawn are even better! This pond is a bird magnet, I ended up writing a whole chapter about birds in my book. I repent, they are magnificent. (Thanks, my birding sister!)
I love it when the birds come back in the spring… Their songs are so uplifting.
It was positively a racket this morning! (loved it.)
I’m a long time birder, spurred largely because of the birds I would see while out riding. Not sure about your area, but Mockingbirds sing at all hours, around here – particularly just after dusk and as day is dawning. The fun thing about them is that you get multiple bird songs in one package! Enjoy your songsters!
It was glorious today mucking. A mob of yellow-headed black birds. Better late then never, for me. Thanks.
The sharp moon in the sky really brings this picture together. Really nice shot.
Thank you. There’s nothing like a toenail moon!
