Weekly Photo Challenge: Early Bird.

Before I came to live on the prairie, I always thought bird-watching was for eggheads; something for people with no dogs or horses. I was wrong. More than wrong: I was blind. I was being small-minded about feathers.

I do my writing long before dawn, and this time of year, there are birds chirping so loudly, just outside my window, that they can not be ignored. It’s pretty inspirational in a way. They’re the only ones up with me at this hour but I have no idea what they look like–it’s dark out. Who sings that loud in the dark??

Faith is the bird that feels the light and sings when the dawn is still dark.” ― Rabindranath Tagore.

    • I know! The ones I see after dawn are even better! This pond is a bird magnet, I ended up writing a whole chapter about birds in my book. I repent, they are magnificent. (Thanks, my birding sister!)

  1. I’m a long time birder, spurred largely because of the birds I would see while out riding. Not sure about your area, but Mockingbirds sing at all hours, around here – particularly just after dusk and as day is dawning. The fun thing about them is that you get multiple bird songs in one package! Enjoy your songsters!
